instagram updates

We had such a great weekend.
Charlie's family came into town and we stuffed our faces. This is a picture of Charlie's hamburger, but instead of a bun, it was between two glazed donuts. OMG.
I stopped in my tracks when we went to the Horchow outlet and the juju hat I've had my eye on had been marked down from $565 to $167. This came home with me immediately!! It was going to cost almost as much to DIY, so it was a no brainer.
This happened. The Puppy Bowl came on, and Toby put himself right in front of the TV.
I took a trip to HomeGoods, and found this grasscloth chest. I'm thinking it would be an amazing spot for a bar. We already have a bar area, but I'm pretty sure I'm going back for this one to maybe use as a side table.
I'm looking for new lamps to go on either side of our TV in the living room. I sort of love these, so they'll probably be coming home with me as well.
I submitted my master bedroom redesign last week. My instructor liked it for the most part, and gave me a couple of good suggestions that I'll be putting into action soon. Most of the other students in the class didn't like it, but to each their own!

14 days of love

When I first saw 14 Days of Love on Pink Pistachio, I knew that I had to do it for Charlie this year. Sometimes things get busy, and it's easy to forget to show each other just how much you care. That's why I've been counting down the days until the beginning of February! For weeks I've been planning which treat I was going to surprise him with each day. Here is what I've done for the first three days:
Day 1: Charlie loves Reese's, so I figured this would be a nice way to start off. These adorable cards can be printed for free from here.
Day 2: This has kind of a weird story, but while we were standing in irritatingly long return lines after Christmas, there were two kids in front of us playing with this toy, making it jump up in the air (and hitting us a few times). After we left the store (and even weeks later) Charlie kept talking about how he really wanted one of these weird looking things. I figured they would be gone by the time I went back last week, but luckily they had a few left. This will probably end up in the trash or destroyed by the dog in a couple of weeks, but whatever makes him happy, right? Printable card from here.
Day 3: This one is pretty corny, but it's true! The printable cards are from here and here. I placed the card, along with a felt heart in these envelopes in blossom. The glittery hearts are from Michaels.

advice from kelly cutrone

If you missed Kelly Cutrone's Office Hours on Levo League yesterday, then you are in luck because they are available here. Here are four pieces of advice that I took away from her Q&A session:
  • Figure out your voice - It is important to actually take the time to sit down, close your eyes, and ask yourself "what am I supposed to be doing?"
  • Even if you are lucky enough to find your dream job, some days are going to suck!
  • Overwhelmed? You can't have everything all the time. Stop and think about what the most important thing is for you to accomplish for yourself and/or your boss.
  • Ask for what you're worth! Make sure you do your research on this though, and request the right amount, or it could backfire.
Over the past month I've done a lot of thinking about what I want to do, which led me to my decision to leave my current job, but I haven't taken much time to think about what I should be doing. I'll be adding this to my list (see below).

Her advice on asking yourself "what is the most important thing to do" is something that I will be implementing immediately. I am a list maker and I'm constantly making impossibly long to-do lists and overwhelming myself. I'm still going to make my lists (or I'll forget!), but instead of feeling like I need to do everything all in one day, I can look at it and ask myself what the most important things are for today.

I'm also learning the fourth piece of advice in my class. It's important to charge what you and your time are worth. My instructor said this was her biggest mistake starting off in her career. Some people start off by working very cheaply with the thought that this will help get their name out there so they can begin to build a reputation and client base. She said it may work some of the time, but most of the time it backfires because when you are charging a lot less than your competitors, it could be a sign that you are not good at what you do and you could actually lose out on business. I'm not really sure that I'll ever go into business for myself, but if I do, I know this piece of advice will be the toughest for me  to implement.
