living room update

Here is what our living room looked like when we moved in. We had cream walls, baby blue ceilings, and white beams. The owners before us were going for a contemporary look, but it just didn't feel right to me. They also put in these new wood look tiles, but I'm not a huge fan and we will eventually change them out. I've had my eye on tiger striped bamboo or dark wood flooring in a herringbone pattern.
This is where we're at so far in the living room. We painted the ceilings Behr Ultra Pure White, the walls Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray, and are currently in the process of painting the beams Benjamin Moore Nightfall. We also covered up most of the floor with a new rug and I'm waiting for my new white Moroccan pouf that will go in front of the fireplace. I'm still on the hunt for the right coffee table and the art on the mantle was just placed up there quickly when we moved in, so ignore these as they will also be changed around a bit.
If I had my way, I'd take out all of the brick surrounding the fireplace and put in millwork and marble tile similar to this:
Since I could never convince Charlie to take on such a large project, I'll settle with painting out the fireplace the same bright white that we used on our ceilings, and the mantle will go the same color as the beams. I think it will really brighten it up in here, because right now it's feeling a bit cave-like with the wall of brick.
I've hesitated until recently to paint it because I'm trying to think ahead to when we're ready to sell the house, and there are many people that dislike painted brick. Since we're the ones living with it for the next few years I've decided to take the plunge - I'll keep you posted on the progress!

coastal getaway

I've been a bit M.I.A. on blogging and social media lately because I was so burnt out on our home renovation that I didn't have the energy or motivation left to put anything towards it. I also found myself getting frustrated every time I logged on to social media and saw everyone's perfectly styled homes while our house was a complete mess. I needed a detox, and it was perfect timing that our annual family vacation was planned at the height of my burnout. I'm back and I feel refreshed and motivated to push on through our renovation. I even completed a pantry and closet makeover the day after we returned! I'll be sharing these later this week, but for now I wanted to share some photos of the sweet little house we got to call home during the past week:
This ocean view could be seen from almost every room in the house. It was unbeatable!
This was the second living area on the bottom floor that led out to the pool and first floor balcony.
The kitchen was coastal perfection. Last year I was obsessing over our bathroom, and this year I was drooling over our Viking appliances. One day...
This is two of the three bedrooms. The first is the master on the third floor and the other was our bedroom for the week. Our room was on the second floor and had the sweetest little balcony that overlooked the street. It was perfect for people watching!

Every detail was so well executed in this place I couldn't narrow down the photos to just one post. I'll be sharing detail shots of this beautiful home tomorrow!

living room reveal

I've been waiting to share our living room until I had everything just the way I wanted it, but seeing as how we're going to start packing up to move in the next month, I figured it's not worth putting any more time or energy into styling this apartment. These are a few photos of our living room as it is now. I had planned on switching out the pillows, adding a neutral Moroccan pouf in place of the current footstool, and changing out the coffee table - but I've decided to wait until the move to purchase these.
Once we make the move be on the lookout for posts of our new living room!
