e-design: modern coastal in hawaii

I've been busy plugging away at e-designs, and I realized that I hadn't shared a single one on the blog! I'm working on getting back into a posting routine, so I thought I'd share this living room design for an e-design located all the way in Hawaii! Their style is a mix of coastal, modern, and industrial, and they love the look of a white sofa with gold accents.

Since they have a dog, a white sofa wasn't realistic for their living situation. The compromise was a light gray sofa with a washable slipcover. White and gold accents were brought in with the addition of the media stand and side table. Blue leather chairs, an indigo slipcovered daybed, and an indoor/outdoor rug complete this pet-friendly look. Here are a few photos of the space before:

The paint color and flooring needed to stay the same, but all the furniture was staging furniture so I got to start with a clean slate. Can you even believe that view?

Here's a look at the floor plan created for the space. The sofa needed to be positioned facing the television, so the daybed and chair placement allow for the views to still be enjoyed when desired.

I've listed a few sources below, but if you have specific questions about an item, please e-mail me for the source!

one room challenge - master bathroom progress week 6

I'm so happy this week is here, because I'm not sure I could take another week stuck working in this bathroom! Unfortunately, even after working as hard as we did, we still have a bit of work to do in the shower. We were told the remaining marble would be installed early this week, but our fabricator has gone MIA on us again. We still have the wall around these areas that will be tiled after the marble is installed, and then after this the shower glass will go in. Crown moulding was cut and painted on Tuesday, but severe weather kept us from installing it in time for photos. I just snapped these quickly with my phone, and I will be sharing "real" photos once the shower is finished, crown moulding is up, and we have our shower glass installed. I'll talk more about specifics in another post, so for now here are photos of our (mostly) finished master bath remodel!

I feel like I say this after every challenge, but next time I am definitely sticking to decorating – no construction, no tiling, and no waiting on trades to show up!

A HUGE thank you to Linda, from Calling It Home for hosting this challenge! The Wednesday participants produced some amazing rooms yesterday, and from what I've seen in sneak peeks, the Thursday participants are killing it as well!  This post is also linked up with Decor to Adore's Thoughts of Home on Thursday.

As always, you can find me on instagram and snapchat (scg_interiors) to keep up with my latest design projects and to get notification of the final, final reveal :)

one room challenge - week 5

This week went so much better than week 4. Our fabricator pulled through and will be installing our vanity countertop this afternoon when they come to measure the shower for our marble threshold and caps for the top of our knee walls. Our plumber is scheduled to come on Tuesday to install the shower trim and vanity faucet, and then we'll be ready for the final reveal! I have a few sneak peeks below so that I don't spoil too much. I'm also updating our progress almost daily on snapchat (scg_interiors)!

Tiling took a million times longer than I expected because of all the cuts, corners, and angles in the shower. It was an extremely slow process, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. This mosaic was a last minute decision that added a lot of time, but I totally love the way it's turning out. We're about a third of the way finished with grouting and plan to finish it completely on Friday.

This vanity has been making me nervous for quite some time. Our drain hit right in the middle of a support piece in the back of the vanity, and we chose not to raise or lower the drain since our plumber would have had to move it all the way from the stack.  Instead, we chose to cut out the support and reinforce the back so that the countertop could be installed. Taking a saw to our brand new vanity was scary, but thankfully Charlie loves to do this stuff and got it put back together perfectly. You'd never know by looking at it that it wasn't built that way originally!

As long as our fabricator and plumber show up on time, I feel confident we can be completely finished in time for the reveal next week!

Here is a recap of our to-do list:

  • waterproof shower walls (finished!)

  • finish tiling floor/shower floor (finished!)

  • tile shower walls and niche (finished!)

  • paint touch-ups (finished!)

  • install baseboards and trim (finished!)

  • install crown moulding (Sunday)

  • install open shelving (today)

  • install vanity (finished!)

  • install marble countertop (today)

  • plumbing fixtures for shower and vanity (Tuesday)

  • shower glass enclosure (not going to happen!)

  • put up new mirror (finished!)

  • new roman shade for window (finished!)

  • artwork and styling (this week)

You can catch up on the whole project by looking at week 1week 2week 3, and week 4 from the last challenge. I'm also sharing progress on instagram and behind the scenes on snapchat (scg_interiors)!

As always, thank you to Linda at Calling it Home for hosting this challenge! Make sure to check out both the Wednesday and Thursday participants to see all the other fabulous projects that bloggers are creating!
