one room challenge - week 5

This week went so much better than week 4. Our fabricator pulled through and will be installing our vanity countertop this afternoon when they come to measure the shower for our marble threshold and caps for the top of our knee walls. Our plumber is scheduled to come on Tuesday to install the shower trim and vanity faucet, and then we'll be ready for the final reveal! I have a few sneak peeks below so that I don't spoil too much. I'm also updating our progress almost daily on snapchat (scg_interiors)!

Tiling took a million times longer than I expected because of all the cuts, corners, and angles in the shower. It was an extremely slow process, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. This mosaic was a last minute decision that added a lot of time, but I totally love the way it's turning out. We're about a third of the way finished with grouting and plan to finish it completely on Friday.

This vanity has been making me nervous for quite some time. Our drain hit right in the middle of a support piece in the back of the vanity, and we chose not to raise or lower the drain since our plumber would have had to move it all the way from the stack.  Instead, we chose to cut out the support and reinforce the back so that the countertop could be installed. Taking a saw to our brand new vanity was scary, but thankfully Charlie loves to do this stuff and got it put back together perfectly. You'd never know by looking at it that it wasn't built that way originally!

As long as our fabricator and plumber show up on time, I feel confident we can be completely finished in time for the reveal next week!

Here is a recap of our to-do list:

  • waterproof shower walls (finished!)

  • finish tiling floor/shower floor (finished!)
